About Me

In today’s social media driven society instant gratification and the pressures of having it all together can sometimes be overwhelming and altogether draining. Similar to the saying, there’s no handbook in raising a child, the same goes for adulthood, there’s no manual for this this thing called “adulting”. This transition can be challenging; whether it’s adjusting to college, balancing work and home life, exploration of identity, evolving relationships, coping with a mental illness or remaining committed to recovery while balancing friendships. In addition to the challenges of embracing adulthood, for many there are also the unique layers of complexities within ethnicity for those from diverse cultural backgrounds, such as stressors related to exploration of racial identity, acculturative stress, and media influences on identity and beauty ideals. eating disorder therapist

As a Licensed Masters Level Psychologist (LPA), I specialize in providing supportive counseling to help individuals, couples and their families cope with these stressors. I am passionate about offering psychotherapy, counseling and support for the many aspects of self-acceptance, self esteem, body image, body appreciation and the impact of media on our overall well-being. I specialize in therapy for anxiety, depression, self-esteem and body image concerns, eating disorder recovery, including binge eating, bulimia and anorexia nervosa treatment, supporting a loved one with eating disorder recovery, adjustment to college and/or life transitions, communication/interpersonal skills and marital therapy, couples counseling, and relationship issues.

Therapeutically I tend to follow a strengths-based, solution-focused approach through a multicultural framework while incorporating Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) perspectives. I am also a member of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP) and serve on IAEDP’s African American Eating Disorder Professionals Committee.
