Couples and Marriage Therapists

Couples therapy, and marriage counseling is sometimes a very difficult first step for couples facing relationship issues. Our couples and marriage therapists get that. We understand that often couples have been struggling for some time before they are ready to seek relationship help and get relationship counseling. Relationship issues are extremely painful and trigger some of our most complicated feelings. As a result you may be ambivalent and ask “does marriage counseling work”? We have many years of experience and use this experience and knowledge about the nature of relationships, attachment and bonding to help couples find each other again. We get that many times relationship issues are at a crisis level when you come to us. Using such approaches as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prepare Enrich, attachment theory, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), emotionally focused therapy (EFT), DBT, psychodynamic and family systems, as well as may other research based approaches to inform our work with couples to help reduce anger, reconnect and recommit to build an even stronger relationship.

In offering these insights and supportive counseling, our couples and marriage therapists, create the safe, neutral space needed for couples to share with and hear each other and learn more effective communication strategies. We help couples find common ground and figure out what is best for their relationship. And while we want to help couples continue to invest in the attachment and bonding that may have given them a home in the past, we also respect the desire of couples to take a different path. Therefore, we also help couples with pre-divorce counseling, if they are evaluating or deciding on separating.
